MARKETING/DESIGN/CONSUMER TRENDS/INSPIRATIONS Cognac & Brandy News for Consumers & Industry Experts
Rather than recoiling horror, cognac house Hennessy (owned by a French conglomerate that also owns high-class brands Moet and Louis Vuitton) has launched Hennessy Black. The new brand has a lighter taste with a honey-vanilla-floral finish that is more suitable to mixing and comes in an edgy black bottle.
“People are getting used to the idea of mixing cognac,” Isabelle Decitre, director of marketing and communications for Hennessy told the Star from her Paris office.
At $74.95 at the LCBO, Hennessy Black comes between the brands higher-end VSOP and entry level VS brands.
“It’s been designed and created for the modern consumer,” Decitre says. And while the idea of someone downing a shot of cognac might make a purist grow pale, she adds cognac shooters are becoming very popular since Hennessy rolled Black out in a handful of markets last year.
“Sales are extremely promising and beyond expectations,” says Decitre.
1-1/2 oz Hennessy Black
1/2 oz cola
Layer in a shot glass, using the back of spoon angled across the glass and pouring slowly to keep the later separate. Start with the coffee liqueur, then the cognac and finally the cola.
