FRANCE EXPORTS OF WINE AND SPIRITS ANNUALLY IS EQUIVALENT TO SELLING 140 BOEINGS

France’s exports of wine and spirits equals about 11 billion euros which is about the sales of 140 Boeing planes.

When one look at it from this perspective it becomes an important factor to take into account when evaluating the contribution of wine & spirits over balance of payments and economic health of France.

2013 and 2014 sales have slowly declined but forecasts are that it will go up again.

This decline is mostly due to the decline of sales in China but also from more traditional markets such as the UK.

The USA shows a steady small growth which dampers the situation.

Champagne sales is first with 2.4 billion euro, then Cognac with 2.2 billion euro, and third for Bordeaux wines with 1.8 billion euro.

I told you Cognac was one of the best kept secret business in France. Perhaps, this is why less than 1% of the cognac produced is consumed in France – so they do not know…
